Join Holly: Transforming Kids’ Reading Experiences at NW 122 Library

Every first and third Monday afternoon, from 4 to 5 PM, the NW 122 Library gets a little brighter when Holly walks through the doors in her yellow therapy vest. Children, who know her schedule. peek around bookshelves, waiting for that familiar wagging tail to appear and hearing her nails tap on the tile floor.

Today was one of those lively afternoons. The library was full of young readers, many proudly carrying books for the summer reading program. As soon as Holly arrived, the room seemed to shift — conversations softened, smiles widened, and little hands reached out eagerly to greet her.

Some children sat cross‑legged on the carpet, reading aloud while Holly settled beside them like the world’s fluffiest reading buddy. Others simply wanted a moment to pet her, hug her, or show her the book they had chosen. Holly moved from child to child with her gentle calm, offering quiet encouragement in the way only a therapy dog can.

Librarians watched with warm smiles as Holly helped turn reading time into something magical. For many of the kids, books and dogs are two of their favorite things — and today, they got both.

By the end of the hour, Holly had met new friends, reconnected with familiar ones, and added a little extra joy to the library’s summer afternoon. And as always, she left behind a trail of happy hearts and excited readers already counting the days until her next visit.

A little Paw-Mail from Holly!

Hi friends! I was so proud of my kids today! From kindergarten all the way to 4th grade — wow, you’re all reading like pros! I loved hearing your stories about dragons, puppies, superheroes, and all kinds of silly adventures. When you read out loud, I snuggled right beside you and listened carefully. Sometimes I even rested my head on your lap so you’d know I was paying attention.

My human let me stay longer than usual — two whole hours! He waited in the hallway while I spent extra time with the kids (and a few moms and babysitters) who needed a little Holly hug. I didn’t mind one bit — I love library days! My favorite books are the Biscuit stories. It’s so fun when you turn the pages so I can see the pictures too. Some of the littlest ones who can’t read yet curl up next to me and use me as a pillow while their brothers or sisters read. That always makes me smile.

Before we left, I made sure every child got a special sticker to celebrate meeting me today. Every child put on my sticker right way! My human said several of you were brand new to the program — and now that you know my schedule, you’ll be coming back to read with me again. That made my tail wag super-fast!

If you’re not already getting my updates by email, you can subscribe below. You’ll receive a quick confirmation email, and after you accept it, I can share all of my adventures with you!
