Every year, the volunteers at Integris gather for their annual training—a tradition as important as the work we do. It’s a day set aside to learn, refresh, and make sure everyone is prepared to keep patients safe. In quiet hallways and bright meeting rooms, volunteers review procedures, practice new skills, and hear updates from the staff who guide them.
It’s a reminder of the responsibility each of us carry. Each session helps ensure that every patient—young or old, nervous or hopeful—receives care in an environment that is safe, calm, and supported by people who truly understand their role.
By the end of the training, volunteers walk out a little more confident, a little more prepared, and ready to continue offering comfort and kindness to the people who need it most.
A little Paw-Mail from Holly!
I got to tag along to the annual training with my humans today! Since I’m a volunteer too — with my very own badge and everything — I figured I should be there to learn just like the other human volunteers. I paid close attention while they talked about safety and what to do if I notice something important. I’m already pretty good at alerting people at home, so I felt like a real pro during that part.
All the volunteers were so happy to see me! I got big hugs, gentle pats on the head, and lots of “Hi, Holly!” greetings. My tail was wagging the whole time.

My humans and I have been volunteering at Integris for almost four years now, and I love every minute of it — visiting the kids at the hospital, comforting patients at the cancer institute, and spreading a little calm wherever I go.
It was a big day, and I felt very official… but also very loved.
