A Rain-Soaked Shift with Holly, the Unstoppable Service Floof

Rain or shine, Holly brings smiles everywhere she goes.

A Little Paw-Mail from Holly!

I trot proudly into work, tail high, ready to spread joy, comfort, and possibly acquire snacks. But noooo, the sky had other plans. Suddenly—WHOOSH—the heavens open up like someone upstairs spilled their giant bucket, and me and my humans got absolutely drenched.

I mean, soaked. Soggy. Moist. Basically a walking bath sponge with a tail.

And yes, we needed the rain, but could it not have waited until AFTER my shift? Respect the schedule, clouds! My human’s jacket soaked through so badly they had to leave it behind to dry like a sad, abandoned jellyfish.

Luckily, airport employees and passengers didn’t mind that I looked like I had just come from a failed swim lesson. I did a full-body dog shake right in the middle of the terminal — twice — so honestly they probably got to share the experience.

Passenger count was light, but I made my rounds. I visited:

  • Reservationists
  • Police
  • TSA
  • CLEAR
  • Military Welcome Center

Basically everybody but the people hiding from the rain.

At the Military Welcome Center, only a few recruits were waiting for their trip to Ft. Sill. I gave them my best hugs — the kind of hugs that say “You’re doing something amazing, and also please drop any crumbs you might have.”

Then came taste testing. The choices:

  • Oatmeal Raisin
  • Chocolate Chip
  • Brownies

My human voted Brownies.
I voted Oatmeal Raisin — and not just because I can’t have the others… but because they make me feel like a sophisticated lady with refined cookie taste. Several recruits agreed with me. Smart humans.

We continued on to greet passengers at the gates. The weather made several airport shops close early, so I missed seeing my favorite fan — tragic! But I’ll catch her Wednesday, and I’ll be dry, fluffy, and fabulous.

Then, exciting news! My friends at American Airlines invited me again to the Snowball Express event for the Gary Sinise Foundation. Last year I was dressed as an ELF — yes, ears and all — and my human has to start on my costume ASAP. Plus, she’s already working on my Halloween outfit, and I have another fitting tonight. I’m basically a runway model at this point.

On the way out, I met a really nice man who gave excellent hugs and took lots of pictures of me to show his family. Honestly, I hope they frame one.

THEN we ran into two girls from Hatch, the restaurant that’s always too crowded for my fluffy butt to fit inside. They didn’t know I visit weekly and got so excited they did the official Girl Squeal™ over my sticker!

I mean… over my sticker.
Icon behavior.

My humans handed out my trading card, too — instant fans acquired.

By the end of the visit, I had dried out, the rain stopped, and it was time to head home to check on Nugget. Storms scare him sometimes, and as the wise elder dog sibling, it’s my duty to comfort him (and steal whatever treat he’s halfway done chewing).
