From Bisquit Books to Baby Stickers: Holly’s Library Adventures

Taking Holly to the NW 122nd Street Library is always a joy. The moment we walk through the doors, her tail starts wagging as she looks around for familiar faces — and she’s never disappointed. Big kids, little kids, new visitors, and long‑time regulars all light up when they see her. Holly settles right into her role, offering calm comfort, happy smiles, and a soft place for readers to rest their hands while they share their stories with her.

A Little Paw-Mail from Holly!

I strutted into the NW 122nd Street Library like the hardworking professional I am — tail up, ears forward, coat freshly fluffed to maximum floof. I spotted several new faces right away, but my regulars were already waving at me like I was the grand marshal of a parade. Honestly, I am the parade.

The new kids were practically vibrating. My old standbys had clearly briefed them: “Wait until you feel her fur… it’s SO soft.” And suddenly I had a whole line of children waiting for “photo ops,” like I was doing a meet‑and‑greet on my world tour. One girl even announced she wanted to use me as a pillow. I mean… yes, I am comfortable, but I’m also on the clock. Professionalism matters.

While everyone waited their turn, the kids sat quietly at the tables coloring pictures of me. I LOVE watching them draw — it’s like seeing all the different versions of myself from alternate universes. Sometimes I have three legs, sometimes six, sometimes my ears are the size of dinner plates. One time I looked like a golden potato with eyes. Honestly, artistic interpretation is very important, and I support all of it.

Then there was the tiniest girl — maybe one year old — absolutely adorable, like a baby marshmallow with legs. She discovered my stickers and immediately decided they were high fashion. She took her friend’s stickers, stuck them all over her dress, and then marched back to me like a tiny sticker‑powered tornado demanding more. By the time she was done, she looked like a walking scrapbook. Honestly, I fully support her artistic vision. If she wants to start a sticker‑couture clothing line, I’ll model for free.

Several of the kids read my favorite Bisquit stories. I love Bisquit. That dog has such good adventures — puddles, parks, chaos, the whole package. I have good adventures too, of course… mine just involve fewer puddles and way more paperwork. Bisquit gets to chase butterflies; I get to file reports. Honestly, I think he’s getting the better deal.

One little boy, maybe eight or nine, came with his dad. His dad petted me right away, but the boy stood back a little, giving me the same look people give suspicious leftovers in the fridge. I get it — being new to the program can be a lot. I didn’t push him. I just gave him my best “gentle professional dog” face, the one that says, Hello, I am safe, fluffy, and fully certified in not scaring children. Usually by the next visit, they forget all about being nervous and end up hugging me like we’ve been best friends since kindergarten.

A few kids asked if I was going trick‑or‑treating, and I told them absolutely yes — my human already made my Halloween costume, and I had my final fitting over the weekend. My costume is based on this pattern, but it’s different, upgraded, Holly‑fied and extra, extra, extra large. My human had to basically create a whole new pattern in order for it to fit me. I can’t spoil the surprise! The annual Halloween party is serious business, and my humans and I always attend to hand out candy. I must maintain the mystery. A professional like me knows the importance of dramatic reveal.

People always want to know everything about me — where I go, who I live with, how much my human spoils me. Every room I walk into turns into a full‑blown press conference. Reporters? Cameras? Microphones? No — just very curious children. And yes, the answer is: I am spoiled. But in a professional way. The perfect amount of pampering for a hard‑working comfort dog like myself. I’m basically a luxury employee with fur.

This week is going to be wildly busy for me — basically my own four‑day world tour:

Library tonight OCU Law School tomorrow Will Rogers Airport Wednesday Integris Behavioral Health Friday

By the end of all that, I’m absolutely going to need a long nap this weekend. Maybe a medium nap too. And a bonus nap. Honestly, I might need to schedule a whole nap conference just to recover.

When I got home, Nugget practically exploded with excitement. I swear he launched into the air like a little furry pogo stick. He bounced around me, talking a mile a minute, asking seventeen questions, and offering twenty‑three opinions no one asked for. He’s such a little brother — full of energy, full of drama, full of commentary. But he was happy I was home, and honestly… I was too. It’s nice to be greeted like a celebrity by someone who thinks you hang the moon. Even if he also thinks ceiling fans are suspicious.
