Reading to the Dogs: Holly’s Big Day with OKC Metro Librarians

Holly was officially invited to attend the Metro Librarian staff meeting and training event, which basically means she was the guest of honor. She trotted in like, “Yes, hello, it’s me,” ready to supervise all the humans while they discussed the Reading to the Dogs program. She was there so the librarians could get feedback — or, as Holly interpreted it, so they could admire her, pet her, and tell her she’s doing an excellent job being adorable and improving literacy across Oklahoma City.

A Little Paw-Mail from Holly!

The moment my human said, “We’re going to the Embassy Suites,” I knew something important was happening. Important = people. People = pets. Pets = ME. So obviously, I was ready.

We walked into the hotel like we were checking in for a red‑carpet event. I swear the automatic doors opened slower than usual, probably because they were stunned by my beauty. Happens all the time.

Inside, the place was packed with librarians from all over the OKC Metro. And let me tell you—librarians LOVE me. I’m basically a furry celebrity in the Reading to the Dogs program. I’ve been to three different library branches, but NW 122nd is my home turf. My fan club lives there. And yes, that includes the employees. They pretend it’s about “supporting literacy,” but really they just want to hug me.

The librarians were on a break from their meeting, and suddenly they formed a line. A LINE. For me. I felt like I should’ve brought a stamp so I could sign autographs. “To my biggest fan—stay pawsitive!” You know, real book‑signing energy.

They asked my human all kinds of questions about the Reading to the Dogs program. I listened politely, even though I already knew the answers. The program is amazing. Kids come in nervous, stumble over words, and then—BOOM—after a few minutes with me, they’re reading like tiny professors. Dogs don’t judge, so they relax. Plus, I wag my tail every time they get a word right. Positive reinforcement, baby.

And of course, Biscuit books are my favorite. I’ve heard every Biscuit story so many times I could probably recite them myself… if dogs could talk. (Honestly, it’s probably for the best we can’t. I’d never stop.)

After everyone got their pets, hugs, and emotional support boosts, my human and I headed out. I left the librarians smiling, energized, and probably covered in at least a little bit of my fur. It is doggie glitter. You’re welcome, Metro Library.

If you want to read to me yourself, I’m at the NW 122 Library every first and third Monday from 4:00–5:00 PM CST. Come see me—I’ll even wag my tail for you!
